The Weekly Travel Postcard – Bird Kingdom in Niagara Falls.
We have visited this interesting place last year during the summer of 2016. I am not sure it is indeed “the World’s Largest Indoor Aviary”, as they claim, but if you are in Niagara Falls and like tropical and other birds, it is certainly worth visiting.
I like the design of the building, which looks inside like the old temple lost in a jangle. The structure is Javanese House from the 1800s, which is one of the kind in North America. Most of the tropical birds inside are free to fly within the structure
Only some smaller birds – lorikeet parrots, are in the enclosure called Lorikeet Landing where then can also fly, but this area is separated from the rest. For an additional fee and under the supervision of the aviary’s staff, adults and children can feed the birds, and if they are lucky, birds might land on their arms, head or shoulders. It looked like fun, especially for children.
Here is another picture from this place and below you can see the display presenting pictures of the birds in this aviary. The display was pretty long so I was not able to take the photo of the whole poster.
Beside the above mentioned areas, there are a few other displays behind glass, like in a zoo, presenting some other animals like bats, owls and turtles. From this area, particularly interesting for me was seeing small baths feeding on fruits.
So next time you are visiting Niagara and you like to almost feel like transported to the tropics, visit this interesting place and be surrounded by exotic, clourful tropical birds. It is a particularly good outing for a rainy day or if you are in Niagara Falls in winter.
